Oat milk - along with all the other great plant-based drinks - can now be bought everywhere. But the tetrapacks aren't cheap and this variant is actually super easy and cheap to make at home. And you also have more control over where the ingredients come from

I only use oats from Germany in my oat milk!

Settled layers in the oat milk

Homemade oat milk does not contain any stabilisers or other ingredients that could cause heavier particles to settle to the bottom of the milk. So don't be surprised if after a short time the milk in the filled container starts to look a little layered. Simply shake well before use and it will have its familiar colour and consistency again.

Preparation time: approx. 10 min
Soaking time: approx. 10 min

Ingredients for just over 1 litre

  • 1 litre of cold water
  • 90 g rolled oats
  • 4 dates, pitted
  • 1 pinch of salt
  • 4 ice cubes

In addition:

  • A fine sieve

Preparation

Put all the ingredients, except for the ice cubes, into the kitchen blender and leave to soak for approx. 10 mins.

Then add the ice cubes and blend everything really well and finely for 1-2 minutes. But please make sure that the mixture does not get warm during blending, otherwise the whole thing will turn out quite unattractive. This is why we also use ice cubes.

Pour the pureed liquid through a fine sieve and collect in a measuring jug. Then pour into a clean container / screw-top jar and store in the fridge.

Storage

The oat milk will keep for approx. 3-4 days in the fridge.

Your homemade oat milk is ready,

Your Katinka
